Beirut: Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Sunday marked the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of President-elect Bashir Gemayel, hailing him as a symbol of Lebanon’s struggle for sovereignty and independence.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Gemayel expressed his tribute on the social platform X, stating, ‘Forty-three years after his martyrdom at the Kataeb’s house. Bashir has triumphed, along with a free, sovereign, and independent Lebanon.’
Bashir Gemayel, who was elected president in 1982, was assassinated 22 days later in a massive bombing at the Kataeb’s office in Ashrafieh.
