Bassil and Berri Unite to Reject Strife and Safeguard Lebanese Army

Beirut: Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Gebran Bassil announced on Tuesday, following a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, that the party remains unwavering in its commitment to an initiative aimed at protecting Lebanon by garnering the broadest possible national support.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil emphasized that he and Berri have reached an agreement on two fundamental principles: the rejection of internal strife, which they view as the most significant threat to Lebanon, and the safeguarding of the Lebanese Army, considered a symbol of national unity. These principles, Bassil asserted, are essential for protecting Lebanon's sovereignty and for strengthening the state as the sole authority over decision-making and arms.

Bassil further elaborated on his proposal for protecting Lebanon, underscoring the importance of rejecting sectarian strife and external interference. He called for ensuring Israel's complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory and an end to its attacks, strengthening the Lebanese Army and security institutions, and adopting national dialogue as a means to reinforce state sovereignty, unity, and long-term stability.
