Zahle: Free Patriotic Movement head, MP Gebran Bassil, began today a tour of the villages east of Zahle by inaugurating the Movement's office in the town of Ain Kfarzabad, and then moved to Mar Elias Church Hall where he received a popular welcome, accompanied by MP Salim Aoun, former MP Cesar Maalouf, and several FPM officials and supporters.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, in his word before the attending crowd, Bassil hailed the coexistence that Lebanon enjoys, saying that this is the value of Lebanon, as well as the country's ability to be a living example of coexistence and solving problems together, as highlighted by the Pope.
Bassil addressed the shifting borders in the region, recalling the historical context of Sykes-Picot, and reiterated a commitment to Lebanon's borders and unity. He emphasized that all of Lebanon is considered as one entity and rejected any policies that would divide it. He warned against the threat of being divided into sectarian mini-states, highlighting the importance of unity in Lebanon.
Bassil also discussed Lebanon's relations with Syria, stating that Lebanon seeks stability, security, prosperity, and peace for Syria, as a positive situation in Syria would equally benefit Lebanon. He asserted that Lebanon's responsibility is to protect its country and people, while also expecting neighboring countries to reciprocate. Bassil stressed that prioritizing Lebanon is not an act of racism but a duty. He called for a free government in Lebanon to ensure the best possible relations with Syria.
