Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri's media office announced the postponement of Wednesday's session on the proposed general amnesty law and exceptional sentence reductions, citing the need for broader national consensus.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the proposal aimed to restore the principle of justice amid chronic delays in criminal rulings and deteriorating prison conditions. The statement emphasized the importance of addressing these systemic issues through legislative measures.
It was noted that despite efforts by parliamentary committees to reach a unifying agreement, recent developments in several areas, accompanied by what was described as sectarian and confessional incitement, prompted the decision to postpone the session. The postponement was made under the slogan of "consensus," indicating the necessity of achieving a comprehensive agreement before moving forward.
