Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday chaired a meeting of Parliament's Bureau to finalize the agenda for plenary sessions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab stated that the agenda includes several draft laws, with an urgent proposal on official examinations and the controversial general amnesty bill being of particular note. Bou Saab emphasized that the amnesty law requires broad political consensus and would not be passed without agreement. He mentioned that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam had also urged further consultation if needed. Bou Saab rejected calls to boycott Parliament, warning that such actions undermine legislative work, including reforms and measures benefiting the military and public sector.
Additionally, Berri has decided to send a parliamentary delegation led by Bou Saab to Doha to offer condolences following the death of former Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Berri praised the Emir's longstanding support for Lebanon, including the Doha Agreement and post-2006 reconstruction efforts. Separately, Berri met with Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud and sent congratulatory and condolence messages to the speakers of the Syrian and Venezuelan parliaments, respectively.
