Beirut: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced a contribution of USD 1 million from the Government of Japan aimed at providing essential in-kind food assistance to 59,000 vulnerable individuals affected by the recent conflict escalation in Lebanon. This support comes at a critical time as many families in Lebanon remain displaced and continue to grapple with economic challenges and the ongoing impacts of insecurity.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, humanitarian assistance is crucial for helping families meet their basic food requirements and stabilize their lives amidst prevailing uncertainty. Anne Valand, WFP Lebanon Deputy Country Director, emphasized that timely food assistance is fundamental in helping families regain stability during crises. She expressed gratitude to Japan for its ongoing support, which enables WFP to assist those most in need.
Japan has consistently partnered with WFP in Lebanon, supporting various initiatives over the years to aid vulnerable communities and bolster national capacities. H.E. Kenji Yokota, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon, reiterated Japan's dedication to supporting Lebanon during these challenging times. In 2026, Japan has contributed a total of USD 3 million to WFP's operations in Lebanon. These additional contributions are crucial in helping WFP address evolving humanitarian needs through various forms of assistance, ensuring that people receive the support that best aligns with their needs.
