Death Toll from Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon Rises to 2,448

BEIRUT: The death toll from ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon has surged to 2,448, with injuries now totaling 11,471, as government estimates revealed on Saturday, underscoring the severe impact of the conflict on the Lebanese population. According to Kuwait News Agency, Lebanese Environment Minister Dr. Nasser Yassin, who also serves as the coordinator for the government's emergency committee, reported during a press conference that Israeli warplanes had conducted 82 air raids in the past 24 hours. These attacks resulted in 30 fatalities and 135 injuries, predominantly affecting Southern Lebanon. The total number of airstrikes since the beginning of the occupation on October 8 has now reached 10,415. Dr. Yassin highlighted the humanitarian crisis triggered by the conflict, noting that 1,098 shelters have been established to accommodate those displaced. However, 902 of these shelters have already exceeded their capacity. The crisis has displaced 191,912 people, comprising 44,806 families. He further n oted the strain on healthcare infrastructure, with 233 primary healthcare centers currently supporting 788 shelter centers across Lebanon. Additionally, 1.6 million medication boxes have been distributed to meet urgent healthcare needs. Amid the escalating violence, Lebanese General Security has documented the crossing of 337,972 Syrian citizens and 138,005 Lebanese citizens into Syria, reflecting the widespread displacement caused by the continued hostilities. Lebanon has been subjected to daily military attacks and airstrikes by occupation forces since September 23, 2024, contributing to the growing humanitarian emergency.
