Kuwait Prioritizes Digital Economy Expansion Through Global Partnerships

KUWAIT CITY: The State of Kuwait is actively pursuing the development and enhancement of its digital economy by collaborating with internationally recognized partners and companies. This commitment was reiterated by a Kuwaiti minister during a recent event. According to Kuwait News Agency, Minister of State for Communication Affairs Omar Al-Omar emphasized Kuwait's dedication to digital strategies aimed at advancing public services within state institutions. His comments came during Kuwait's participation in the Google Public Sector Summit 2024, held in Washington. Minister Al-Omar, part of a delegation representing the supervising committee for the partnership between Kuwait and Google Cloud, highlighted the summit's role in fostering digital transformation and innovation in the public sector. Minister Al-Omar underscored the significance of Cloud computing in enhancing operational capacities and inspiring innovation. He pointed out that Kuwait's digital strategy has already improved government processes a nd institutional performance, aligning with the goals of Kuwait Vision 2035. During his visit to Washington, the minister met with Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, and other senior executives, expressing Kuwait's interest in expanding partnerships with global technology firms. The discussions with Google Cloud focused on implementing the framework agreement between the two parties, developing projects for upcoming data centers, and exchanging insights on global technological advancements. Al-Omar also engaged with other leading tech companies to explore further collaboration opportunities within the digital economy. Google Cloud, in January 2023, announced a framework agreement with the Kuwaiti government to chart a roadmap for digital transformation across various state sectors. This collaboration aims to enhance government operations and cybersecurity, working in conjunction with the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and the Kuwait Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT).
