Beirut: National Defense Minister, Michel Menassa, on Tuesday received UK Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa, Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, at his Yarzeh office. The meeting was also attended by British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, along with an accompanying delegation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussions focused on the repercussions of the recent war on Lebanon, delving into its security, economic, and social implications. The talks also addressed developments in southern Lebanon and the challenges the country currently faces. A significant point of discussion was the enhancement of cooperation between Lebanon and the United Kingdom, especially in the military domain. The continuation of British support for the Lebanese army was highlighted as crucial for maintaining stability during this critical period.
Admiral Ahlgren reiterated the UK's commitment to supporting Lebanon, emphasizing the UK's dedication to assisting Lebanon in overcoming the war's repercussions. Ambassador Cowell supported this sentiment, affirming the UK's backing of initiatives aimed at ceasing the war in Lebanon and the broader region.
Minister Menassa expressed gratitude for Britain's ongoing support and underscored the need for the international community to play an active role in assisting the Lebanese state. He also called for British intervention to pressure Israel into halting its attacks on Lebanon, which would help consolidate stability and safeguard national sovereignty.
Additionally, Minister Menassa held talks with MP Melhem Riachy, focusing on Lebanon's general situation, particularly the impact of daily Israeli attacks on various sectors within the country.
