Former deputy foreign minister Ali el Hefny affirmed the continuity of Egypt’s endeavors and efforts to get Sudan out of its crisis, stop the bloodshed, and encourage all parties to carry out a peaceful negotiation process that restores security and stability to the country.
Dialogue between Cairo and Khartoum never ceases in light of historical and fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, the two countries’ shared strategic interests, and the national security of each of them, Hefny told MENA.
The former official highlighted the importance of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s meeting with Head of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in Alamein city on Tuesday.
The meeting came at a very important time given the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Sudan; due to the continued armed confrontation between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the increasing numbers of the dead and injured, in addition to the displacement of millions of Sudanese, Hefny said.
The Alamein talks emphasized the continuity of consultation and communication between the two countries and the exchange of their viewpoints on developments and changes in the Sudanese arena, the former official added.
On that score, he pointed out to Cairo’s strenuous efforts to stop the bloodshed in Sudan and end the conflict that casts a shadow on neighboring countries and poses a threat to the security and stability of the region.
He also noted that Egypt called and hosted a summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries last July.
Hefny added that Cairo is concerned about the deterioration of the situation in Sudan in a way that can lead to more instability in the entire region, stressing that Egypt assumes its Arab and regional responsibility towards its neighbor; Sudan.
