Egypt welcomes outcome of meeting between Libya’s House of Representatives, Higher State Council

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid welcomed the outcome of a meeting between the Libyan House of Representatives and Libya’s Higher Council of State, which was held on Thursday.

The two sides agreed to refer the draft constitutional document for endorsement, with the aim of finalizing the procedures represented in encouraging the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections.

In a press release, Abu Zeid praised the role of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Higher Council of State in carrying out their responsibilities.

The track of the Libyan Constitutional Committee, consisting of the two houses, whose rounds started in Cairo in April 2022 under the auspices of the UN, is the main track that embodies the will of the Libyan people, he added.

The spokesman, meanwhile, voiced hope that the two sides would complete the rest of their tasks in the upcoming period.

Egypt will always support the choices of the Libyan people, and the role of Libyan institutions, in a way that leads to achieving security, stability and unity in Libya, and the exit of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from its lands, he added.
