Egyptian-Qatari Statement on Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations: Temporary Truce for 60 Days

Cairo: Egypt and Qatar issued a joint statement this evening regarding the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the statement indicated that Egypt and Qatar are pursuing their intensive efforts to bring viewpoints closer together and work to resolve points of contention to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, based on the proposal of US envoy Witkoff, allowing for the resumption of indirect negotiations based on this proposal. The statement added that both Egypt and Qatar, in coordination with the United States, affirm their intention to intensify efforts to overcome the obstacles facing the negotiations. "Egypt and Qatar also call on all parties to exercise responsibility and support the efforts of mediators to end the crisis in the Gaza Strip and restore stability and calm to the region," the statement said. It added that both countries also look forward to quickly reaching a temporary 60-day truce that will lead to a permanent ceasefire agreem ent in the Gaza Strip, allowing an end to the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Strip and the opening of crossings and entry of humanitarian and relief aid, ensuring the alleviation of the suffering facing the Palestinian people in Gaza. The statement supported a complete end to the war and the commencement of the reconstruction of the Strip in accordance with the plan adopted by the emergency Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.
