Environment Ministry Reviews Preparations for Jordan’s Participation in COP29.

Amman: The Ministry of Environment held a preparatory meeting ahead of Jordan's participation in the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29), which will be launched in Baku, Azerbaijan next month. According to Jordan News Agency, the dialogue was conducted under the auspices of Minister of Environment Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The meeting reviewed the conference's key themes and the critical outcomes achieved in the previous two editions of COPs in Sharm El-Sheikh and Dubai. Dr. Radaideh emphasized the importance of engaging youth in discussions on environmental issues and climate change. This includes participation in the 2024 Local Youth Climate Change Conference (LCOY). A preparatory meeting was held for the youth team who will represent Jordan's youth as part of the official Jordanian delegation at COP29. During the meeting, projects to be launched at the Baku conference were presented. A primar y focus will be on enhancing regional climate action in the Middle East and North Africa region, involving five countries led by Jordan. This initiative will be implemented by the Islamic Development Bank, in partnership with the GGGI. Participants also stressed the importance of enhancing readiness to reduce natural disasters under the Jahez (Ready) project, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Additionally, they highlighted the Climate-Refugees Nexus (CRN) Initiative, launched by Jordan and adopted as a main solution for the COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery, and Peace.
