Brussels: The European Union has announced the activation of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (Copernicus EMS) to provide urgent aid to Spain in response to the worst natural disaster to hit the country in recent memory. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a press conference that Brussels is prepared to assist Spain during this crisis, describing the images from the affected areas as "devastating." The EU has already initiated support and assistance through the Copernicus programme. According to Kuwait News Agency, Spanish authorities have confirmed that 63 people have died due to the floods caused by a storm that initially struck eastern Spain and later expanded to other regions, leading to significant material damage. The activation of the EU's Copernicus EMS aims to manage and mitigate the impact of this natural disaster, reflecting the EU's commitment to providing rapid and effective relief efforts in times of crisis.
