Brussels: The European Commission and NATO have jointly announced the establishment of a new high-level task force aimed at bolstering cooperation between the EU and NATO to address "evolving threats and challenges." This development was revealed in a joint statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, following their first meeting since Rutte assumed office. According to Kuwait News Agency, both leaders highlighted that Russia's war on Ukraine is perceived as "the single biggest threat to peace and security on the European continent." They also expressed concern over the deployment of North Korean soldiers to support Russia, calling it a "significant escalation" of the conflict in Ukraine and a "serious threat" to both European security and global peace. The announcement underscored the importance of the EU-NATO partnership in safeguarding peace, freedom, and prosperity amid rising global risks. Plans for the inaugural meeting of the new task force a re set to take place in the coming weeks. The statement further elaborated on discussions regarding the "growing assertiveness of authoritarian states on the world's stage." These states are seen as challenging the shared interests, values, and democratic principles of the EU and NATO through political, economic, technological, and military means.
