European Commission Allocates pound 25 Million to Support Voluntary Returns of Non-EU Nationals

BRUSSELS: The European Commission has announced a new funding initiative aimed at assisting Member States in the voluntary return of non-EU nationals who do not have the legal right to remain in the EU. A total of pound 25 million has been allocated under the Asylum Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) to facilitate this process. According to Emirates News Agency, the funding is specifically designed to aid Member States whose return systems are currently overwhelmed. By enhancing their capacity building and supporting voluntary returns, the initiative aims to foster a more efficient and humane approach to managing returns. Eligible Member States can apply for this funding until the 15th of November 2024. This financial support aligns with the broader objectives of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, which seeks to establish an effective common EU system for returns. Key to this system are the principles of voluntary return and sustainable reintegration, ensuring that returnees can go back to their home coun tries safely, with dignity, and in consideration of their future prospects. The EU Return Coordinator is actively collaborating with Member States within the High-Level Network for Returns to enhance the effectiveness of these programs.
