Cairo: Caretaker Finance Minister, Dr. Youssef Khalil, on Thursday underscored the importance of resolving conflicts in the Middle East, including in Lebanon, to achieve sustainable livelihoods, enhance governance, combat corruption, and address challenges such as climate change, gender equality, and youth employment. Speaking at the 20th anniversary of the IMF's Middle East Technical Assistance Center (METAC) in Cairo, Khalil praised METAC's pivotal role in strengthening institutional capacities and supporting inclusive growth. He noted Lebanon's pride in hosting METAC since 2004, emphasizing its resilience during Lebanon's crises. Khalil expressed gratitude to METAC's leadership and member states for their enduring commitment, affirming Lebanon's dedication to advancing shared development goals. The three-day event features workshops on governance, economic resilience, and public financial management. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Dr. Khalil highlighted METAC's significant contributions in fostering development across the region. He called for concerted efforts to tackle pressing issues, including climate change and youth unemployment, which are critical for sustainable progress. The minister also stressed the importance of gender equality in achieving comprehensive development objectives. During the event, participants engaged in discussions focusing on strengthening governance frameworks and enhancing economic resilience. These workshops aim to equip member states with the necessary tools and knowledge to implement effective public financial management strategies. Dr. Khalil reiterated Lebanon's commitment to collaborating with METAC and other nations to promote stability and prosperity in the region.
