Beirut: The Ministry of Finance announced in a statement that, following meticulous investigation, a customs force in south Lebanon managed to seize a truck on Friday evening loaded with over a thousand pairs of smuggled shoes subject to the Israeli boycott law.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, based on Finance Minister Yassin Jaber's directives and follow-up with the General Directorate of Customs, specialized units within the Customs Authority continued their investigations discreetly, raiding a warehouse suspected of containing large quantities of goods subject to the Israeli boycott law.
Accordingly, the Sidon Police, in a large-scale security operation, carried out a series of simultaneous raids and arrests to prevent any information from leaking, whereby five people were arrested in different locations in Sidon, Wadi al-Zeeni, al-Shehabieh, Nabatieh, and Tyre, in addition to raiding two warehouses, the first in Tyre and the second in Wadi al-Zeeni, where additional quantities of smuggled goods were confiscated.
Investigations are currently underway with all detainees under the supervision of the Military and Financial Public Prosecutions, in addition to contacting the Ministry of Economy's Israel Boycott Office to take necessary action.
Minister Jaber commended the work of the Customs Police, who have been remarkably active in recent months in pursuing and controlling smuggling activities that harm public interests, the safety of citizens, and the laws in force.
