Frankfurt Celebrates the Return of Its Esteemed Book Fair with a Strong Message Against Fake News

FRANKFURT: The 67th annual Frankfurt Book Fair, a key event in the global publishing calendar, commenced this Wednesday, welcoming nearly 4,000 exhibitors from across the globe. The fair, set to run until October 20, began with days dedicated exclusively to industry professionals before opening its doors to the general public over the weekend. According to Kuwait News Agency, the first three days are reserved for the specialized public, particularly targeting publishing houses and the book trade sector. This initial phase is designed to foster professional networking and business transactions before the fair becomes accessible to a broader audience. During the opening ceremony, Claudia Roth, German State Minister for Culture and Media, addressed cultural leaders from Germany and around the world. She highlighted the critical role of literature in supporting democracy and urged the cultural community to fight against the spread of fake news. Similarly, Juergen Boos, the CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair, emphas ized the fair's role as a venue for passionate and respectful discussions. The fair is expected to draw significant attention this year with more than 7,500 industry specialists from over 100 countries in attendance. Organizers anticipate roughly 280,000 visitors throughout the event's duration, including more than 10,000 journalists and representatives from various media outlets, indicating the fair's extensive influence and reach in the literary and cultural sectors.
