Gemayel Urges Lebanese to Unite for Pope’s Historic Visit


Bkirki: Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel, accompanied by MP Salim Sayegh, met with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi in Bkirki to discuss recent developments in Lebanon.



According to National news agency – Lebanon, following the meeting, Gemayel described the visit as ‘pleasant,’ reflecting the festive atmosphere surrounding Pope Leo XIV’s historic visit. Gemayel emphasized the importance of the occasion, urging all Lebanese to actively participate in welcoming the Pope. He stressed that the country should be ready to convey a message of openness, peace, love, and stability, highlighting the significance of a united presence of Christians and citizens.



Gemayel articulated Lebanon’s aspiration to live in peace, move beyond past conflicts, and build a stable nation. He expressed hope that the papal visit would mark the end of a period of turmoil and usher in a new era for the country, helping Lebanon regain its reputation as the ‘Switzerland of the East’ and a model for the region.



He encouraged Lebanese citizens to prepare for the Pope’s visit, urging them to be visible on the streets of Annaya, Bkirki, Beirut, and at all organized events. Gemayel underlined the importance of demonstrating Lebanon’s vibrant Christian presence and the lively spirit of its people, urging participation beyond mere television viewing during the three-day visit.



When questioned about political issues, Gemayel refrained from commenting, stating that the focus should remain on the Papal visit, with other matters to be addressed subsequently. He cautioned that ignoring the current situation would be nave.
