Grand Mufti Daryan Discusses Challenges and Recovery Efforts with Former PM and Ambassadors

Beirut:Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan met with former Prime Minister Hassan Diab at Dar Al-Fatwa to discuss the current developments in Lebanon and the region, focusing on the deteriorating economic and social conditions affecting Lebanese citizens.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, after the meeting, former Prime Minister Diab highlighted the shared perspectives on the urgent need to tackle the country's escalating challenges. He emphasized the significance of Dar Al-Fatwa as a national institution that advocates for dialogue, tolerance, and moderation, cautioning that weakening national institutions and religious authorities could lead to increased extremism.

Diab urged for unified national efforts to address issues such as the Israeli occupation in South Lebanon and the ongoing economic and social crises that threaten the country's stability. He lamented Lebanon's inability to implement an economic recovery plan proposed by his government six years ago, attributing the delay to financial and personal interests blocking the process. Furthermore, he underscored the necessity for Lebanon to agree on a comprehensive, balanced, and equitable recovery plan in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), expressing hope that negotiations would progress despite recent legislative obstacles.

In a separate meeting, Grand Mufti Daryan also engaged with Swedish Ambassador to Lebanon Thomas Brøndén and Danish Ambassador Mette Thygesen to discuss regional and local developments.
