Beirut: IDM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, launched the 'Internet for All' initiative that aims to provide low-cost internet services for persons with disabilities.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Beirut under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Maroun Chammas, IDM Chairman, and Mrs. Rana Zakhour, General Manager of IDM. The event attracted senior officials from the Ministry, IDM team members, civil society organizations, social figures, and journalists.
H.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed highlighted the Ministry's rights-based vision for persons with disabilities, moving from traditional welfare approaches to empowering individuals and ensuring their full participation. Initiatives include re-electing the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, expanding cash support programs, enhancing healthcare access, and ensuring political participation. She emphasized digital inclusion as fundamental to social justice and thanked IDM for the initiative.
Mr. Maroun Chammas reaffirmed IDM's commitment to providing fast and competitively priced internet access. He stressed the importance of internet access for persons with disabilities, describing it as a national duty in the era of technology. Chammas emphasized the need for implementing fiber-optic networks across Lebanon to ensure accessibility for all citizens.
The 'Internet for All' service includes options tailored to users' needs, offering the first month free, complimentary installation, a free wireless modem, 24/7 technical support, and discounted packages. Available to persons with disabilities holding a valid card from the Ministry, the offer runs until the end of 2025.
