BAGHDAD: Iraq has lodged a formal protest with the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council, condemning what it describes as a violation of its airspace by Israeli forces to launch an attack on Iran. The action underscores tensions in the region and Iraq's insistence on maintaining its sovereignty. According to Kuwait News Agency, the protest was announced by Iraqi Government Spokesman Basim Al-Awadi. He stated that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage with the United States regarding the incident. This communication is based on the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two nations, which includes commitments to Iraq's security and sovereignty. Al-Awadi emphasized Iraq's firm stance on preserving its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. He asserted that Iraq will not permit its airspace or land to be used for assaults on other countries, particularly its neighbors with whom it shares mutual respect and interests. T he Iraqi government reiterated its dedication to regional stability and the promotion of peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue. The protest reflects a broader effort to prevent Iraq's territory from becoming a battleground in wider regional conflicts.
