Kirkuk: Eight operatives and leaders in the so-called Islamic State (IS/Daesh) were killed in an operation in southern Kirkuk, northern Iraq, the Security Media Cell, an affiliate of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, announced on Wednesday. Iraqi troops successfully infiltrated a major IS compound in the challenging terrain of the Hamrin mountains. This operation involved four air strikes, which were instrumental in eliminating Daesh operatives and leaders.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the operation’s success was confirmed during ground operations that were coordinated with air and technical support from coalition forces. The operation not only resulted in the elimination of the operatives but also led to the confiscation of weapon caches and ammunition.
This successful mission followed a similar operation a week earlier, which resulted in the death of the head of IS-Iraq and eight of his top aides in the Hamrin Mountains. The consecutive operations mark significant progress in the fight against IS in
the region.
