Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed Wednesday to maintain close communication between Japan and the European Union (EU), taking into account the outcome of the Group of Seven (G-7) Hiroshima Summit last month, Japan's Foreign Ministry said.
In their 20-minute telephone conversation, Kishida and von der Leyen exchanged views on cooperation in addressing economic and security challenges between the two sides, according to a statement released from the ministry.
The two leaders also agreed to discuss Japan-EU relations, regional affairs and cooperation in the international arena at the upcoming Japan-EU Summit scheduled for July.
In addition, von der Leyen explained that the EU presented its Economic Security Strategy on Tuesday.
