Jerusalem Municipality Demolishes Structures in Silwan, Families Vacate to Avoid Fines

Jerusalem: The Jerusalem municipality demolished a residential house in Silwan and a commercial facility in Wadi Al-Joz on Tuesday. In a related development, three families in Silwan began vacating their homes to self-demolish them following the municipality's final demolition orders to avoid hefty fines. According to Maan News Agency, the demolition operations in Silwan targeted the Abu Rajab family's home in the Al-Shiyah neighborhood, which had been partially demolished by the municipality using manual tools. The house, which stood for 20 years, was demolished over an alleged lack of building permits. The affected area of the home measured 50 square meters. Additionally, municipal bulldozers demolished a commercial facility in the industrial zone of the Wadi Al-Joz neighborhood. In a parallel incident, the Ghaith and Al-Qaoud families in the Wadi Yasoul neighborhood were seen emptying their homes to comply with the final demolition orders issued by the municipality. The families have chosen to dismantle their homes themselves to sidestep the financial burden of fines and demolition fees typically enforced by the municipality and its associated forces.
