The Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maaytah, and the Canadian Ambassador, Tariq Ali Khan, held discussions Sunday in Amman on cooperation. According to the commission’s statement, the meeting focused on the IEC’s plans and goals in light of its readiness to hold the next parliamentary elections by the valid election law and what it includes of a local list and a national list dedicated to political parties. Maaytah said the IEC has started with technical and logistical preparations to reach “so that the upcoming elections will be a turning point in the history of the Jordanian state in the democratic path.” Maaytah and Khan discussed cooperation in implementing projects related to the political empowerment of women and youth and the promotion and empowerment of the role of political parties through an initial stage represented by signing a joint agreement between the IEC and the Canadian Federations Forum.
