Beirut: Former MP Samer Kabbara on Wednesday announced that he met with Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani to discuss strategic files aimed at reinforcing food security, developing the agricultural economy, and advancing institutional and digital reforms within Lebanon's agriculture sector.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussions centered around a draft law currently before parliamentary committees. This law focuses on fish farming in Lebanese territorial waters, with the goal of boosting local fish production, reducing import costs, and enhancing sustainable food security in the country.
Kabbara also emphasized the importance of a national program launched by the ministry, which aims to distribute thousands of free seedlings to farmers throughout Lebanon. This initiative is designed to support agricultural production and promote rural development.
Additionally, Kabbara expressed his support for digital governance reforms. These reforms include the development of a comprehensive national database for farmers, which is intended to improve oversight, agricultural planning, transparency, and efficiency in the agricultural sector.
