Beirut: The Kataeb's Political Bureau, led by party leader Samy Gemayel, convened its weekly meeting to deliberate on Lebanon's pressing security and political issues. The Bureau issued a statement emphasizing the need for the State to assert its authority over its territory and exercise its sovereign powers to effectively end the ongoing war.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb party is urging the government to provide the army and security forces with clear executive orders to enforce decisions on weapons control and to halt Hezbollah's military and security operations. The party also reiterated its call for the Supreme Defense Council to hold open sessions to monitor and evaluate the implementation of these measures, ensuring compliance through necessary actions.
The Political Bureau expressed concern over potential intimidation tactics in Lebanon's political landscape, referencing threats by Hezbollah's deputy political council head, Mahmoud Qomati, to destabilize and overthrow the State. The Bureau highlighted the risks of recurring events similar to those of May 7, 2008, citing reports of deactivated surveillance cameras in Beirut, which have left areas vulnerable to suspicious activities. The party insists on clear explanations and rapid response from security forces, advocating for increased security deployments and checkpoints nationwide.
Further, the party acknowledged the resilience of residents in southern Lebanon, who remain despite adverse conditions and bombardment. The Bureau emphasized the State's responsibility to protect these communities, prevent armed incursions, and avoid actions that may escalate conflict or justify continued warfare, risking the destruction of villages and displacing populations.
The Kataeb also warned of rising disorder linked to displacement and urged the government to enhance oversight of shelters, manage resident arrangements, and prevent their exploitation for illegal activities. Additionally, the party called for a temporary suspension of the public procurement law, enabling municipalities to effectively address the crisis and coordinate with security forces to maintain public order.
