King Abdullah II Highlights Food Industry’s Economic Role in Jordan.

Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday emphasized the necessity of enhancing the food industry’s role in Jordan’s national economy. He highlighted the sector’s critical importance in achieving food security, generating employment, and boosting exports.

According to Jordan News Agency, the current production capacity of Jordan’s food industry has surpassed JD5 billion, fulfilling over 65 percent of local consumption and reaching more than 140 international markets. During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with representatives from both the public and private sectors, King Abdullah II urged the swift implementation of the Economic Modernisation Vision. This initiative aims to support sectoral growth and promote food exports, particularly in European and U.S. markets.

The King also underscored the importance of adhering to food chain traceability standards. These standards ensure comprehensive tracking of food from production to sale, a critical factor for expanding the global reach of Jordanian produc
ts.

The food industry in Jordan employs 42,000 workers, predominantly Jordanians, and recorded exports of approximately JD460 million in the first seven months of this year. This represents a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The meeting, which included Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, discussed key initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector’s growth, diversifying products, and enhancing competitiveness.
