Kuwait on Thursday obtained the presidency of the 14th UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) conference in Beirut.
Assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Hamad Al-Khaldi obtained the presidency of the commission after Qatar in the last edition.
In a statement for KUNA, Al-Khaldi said that this presidency for the next two years gives importance to Kuwait in dealing with the United Nations and ESCWA in the social and economic aspects through supervising committees.
"In the next stage Kuwait will deal directly with the ESCWA administration in the social and economic aspects, as well as in studies, countries' experiences and statistics," said Al-Khaldi.
He noted that there will be Intensified meetings held in the coming period to enhance Kuwait's role with the ESCWA committees, and with direct follow-up with all concerned countries that need logistical support, especially in the areas of combating poverty, supporting the disabled, the elderly, and marginalized groups, and working to empower countries according to the available capabilities.
"Kuwait played a pioneering role with ESCWA in previous years it has formed a team in the Ministry of Social Affairs to follow up on the implementation of technical cooperation programs with the organization, and it will have a major role in dealing with special cases," he added.
