Paris: Lebanese Central Bank Governor Karim Sad, accompanied by the Bank's legal team, held a series of meetings yesterday in Paris with French investigating judge Cl©mence Olivier.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the judge commended the governor for traveling to meet her and for providing key information that had been missing from the case file. Coordination was agreed to continue, given that the Lebanese Central Bank is a principal party in the cases pending before her.
The statement noted that this coordination revealed new, deliberate, and coordinated acts that led to the misappropriation of funds belonging to the Lebanese Central Bank, with the aim of illicit personal enrichment. Those involved include individuals and front companies, many operating across Europe and other tax havens.
The statement emphasized that close cooperation with the French judiciary is central to establishing criminal responsibility, has already enabled it to refine its legal strategy, and to broaden investigations aimed at recovering misappropriated funds. Additional working sessions have been scheduled, underscoring the ongoing and accelerating nature of this process and its positive progress.
