Lebanese Officials Confer on Media Integrity and Israeli Violations

BEIRUT: Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, met with MP Ibrahim Moussawi, head of the Parliamentary Media and Telecommunications Committee, to discuss the recent Israeli violations against Lebanon and the conduct of media in reporting these events. According to National News Agency-Lebanon, the meeting, held at the minister's office on Tuesday, delved into the current situation in Lebanon, which is exacerbated by ongoing Israeli attacks and the infringement of Lebanese sovereignty. The leaders also addressed issues related to several local, Arab, and foreign media outlets failing to adhere to journalistic standards in their reporting. The discussions highlighted the critical role of Lebanese media in maintaining national integrity and professional ethics. Both parties stressed the need for media outlets to ensure the accuracy of their news and reports to prevent the spread of misinformation. They also expressed concerns over the potential risks of media incitement and the escalation of sectarian tensions within the country. To address these challenges, Makary and Moussawi agreed on the formation of a follow-up committee. This committee will include various stakeholders dedicated to sustaining both political and media efforts to uphold media integrity and address violations against Lebanese sovereignty.
