Masnaa: A joint Lebanese-Syrian meeting at the Masnaa border customs center concluded with the establishment of a temporary, seven-day transitional mechanism aimed at regulating truck movement between Lebanon and Syria. This decision comes as a response to recent disruptions in land transport and was made following direct instructions from Lebanon's Public Works and Transport Minister, Fayez Rasamny.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Lebanese delegation was led by Dr. Ahmad Tamer, Director General of Land and Maritime Transport, and included representatives from General Security, Customs, the Ministry of Agriculture, and land transport unions. On the Syrian side, Ahmad Al-Khatib, Director of the Jdeidet Yabous crossing, led the discussions with relevant authorities present.
Both parties agreed to establish a unified unloading and reloading point during the trial period, operating on a reciprocal basis, while exempting specific shipments such as tankers, hazardous materials, bulk cement, raw cement materials, meat, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, a one-time settlement was approved for trucks that had been stranded due to the disruptions.
The agreed mechanism is strictly temporary and does not alter the existing bilateral agreement between the two nations.
