Foreign Minister of the Libyan Parliament-appointed Government Abdul Hadi al-Huwaij called on the Egyptian leadership to organize an international conference for the reconstruction of Derna and other Libyan cities affected by Storm Daniel and the deadly floods it triggered.
In a phone call with Radio Misr, he said the Libyan government and parliament allocated about 10 billion Libyan dinars for reconstruction efforts.
He lauded Egypt’s pioneering role in offering assistance to the Libyan people, highlighting the depth of the Egyptian-Libyan relations.
He said Egypt is a leading country on the Arab, African and international levels, noting that Egypt does not only offer assistance, but also backs Libya’s stability.
He noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the state bodies from the first day of the crisis to offer humanitarian assistance to the Libyan people, thanking the Egyptian leadership for its swift response.
He offered condolences to the families of Egyptians who died while in Libya to contribute to its development march.
He added that Libya considers the Egyptian people as part of its own people.
He said Egypt was at the forefront of Arab countries that promptly extended assistance to Libya, thanking it and all other countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Tunisia, Oman, Palestine and Jordan, for standing by his people during this hard time.
He also highlighted the role played by the different UN agencies, led by WHO and UNICEF, in support of Libya after the disaster that has left 60,000 people homeless and in dire need of medical and psychological support.
