Millions of shekels worth of smuggled foreign cigarettes were seized in Bethlehem


On Friday, the Customs Police Department was able to seize large quantities of smuggled foreign smoke in Bethlehem.



The Customs Police Service stated, in a statement, which Ma’an received a copy of: that based on intelligence information indicating the presence of parties working to flood the Palestinian market with smuggled foreign smoke to harm the Palestinian economy, and with the follow-up of Major General Iyad Barakat and the briefing of the Minister of the Interior, Major General Ziad Hab Al-Rih, a field work team was formed. From the search, investigation and surveillance crews, and in the early hours of Friday morning, a vehicle was seized at one of the entrances to the Bethlehem Governorate through an ambush prepared in advance, inside which were large quantities of smuggled and illegal foreign smoke estimated at millions of shekels, in addition to illegal goods (car parts, clothes, and cosmetics). “Which harms the revenues of the state treasury and the national economy.”



The police force explained that the seized items have been seized until due legal procedures are completed.
