Beirut: Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, on Wednesday received in his office at the ministry, UNIFIL Spokesperson and Head of its Media Office, Candice Ardell, upon his invitation, accompanied by media officer Dani Al-Ghafary, who had previously visited Minister Morcos for the same purpose.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, after the meeting, Minister Morcos stated that they met with Ms. Ardell to protest the Israeli attacks targeting civilians, especially journalists. He expressed condolences for the United Nations soldiers who were killed as a result of Israeli attacks. During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of strengthening measures aimed at protecting journalists during their field coverage. It was agreed to adopt any measures that would ensure their safety and maintain regular communication to achieve this goal.
Morcos emphasized that the protection of journalists is stipulated under international law. He highlighted that targeting journalists contradicts the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the additional protocols of 1977, particularly Protocol 1, which states in Article 79 the prohibition of targeting journalists and the obligation to protect them. Morcos stressed the necessity of respecting and implementing these rules.
