KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Health is placing significant focus on breast cancer treatment, a major global health challenge, according to Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi. During his inaugural speech at a cancer surgery conference, Al-Awadhi highlighted the event’s focus on breast cancer and the alarming statistic that one in eight women is diagnosed with the disease.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the conference has attracted experts from various specialties to share their expertise and develop new strategies to combat breast cancer. The event aims to enhance cooperation between public and private sectors and underscores the importance of societal awareness regarding early detection and regular medical tests.
Dr. Al-Awadhi expressed pride in Jaber Hospital’s international accreditation by the Surgical Review Corporation as an outstanding center for breast cancer surgery. He noted that the Ministry of Health launched a national program in 2014 for the early detection of breast cancer in w
omen aged 40 and above, with over 40,000 women screened so far.
The minister also announced plans for a new cancer treatment center with a capacity of 618 beds. Dr. Heba Ibrahim, a senior specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery and a cancer surgeon, praised the minister’s commitment to enhancing healthcare, noting the attendance of French Ambassador Olivier Govin. The three-day conference includes workshops with numerous experts and specialists in breast cancer treatment.
