US Embassy in Yemen Urges Release of Detained Staff by Houthi Militias

SANA'A: The US embassy in Yemen has called on the Houthi militia to release its detained staff members, marking three years since their capture. The embassy emphasized that the Yemeni citizens held were innocent and detained without legitimate cause, solely due to their employment with the US Embassy in Sana'a. The statement highlighted the role these individuals played in fostering understanding between the United States and Yemen and supporting their families. According to Kuwait News Agency, the embassy's statement also noted that in addition to the staff detained three years ago, the Houthis have recently taken more Yemeni citizens hostage. These individuals, affiliated with the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, and diplomatic missions, were reportedly seized more than four months ago. The embassy condemned the actions of the Houthi militia, stating they were based on baseless allegations, fabricated evidence, and coerced confessions. The embassy expressed grave concern over reports that s ome of the detained Yemenis may face prosecution on what it described as sham charges. It reiterated its support for those detained and their families, denouncing the violation of human rights involved in this situation. The US embassy pledged to continue advocating for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, emphasizing the need for them to return to their families.
