Tunis:The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, led by Minister Fayez Rasamny, is actively progressing with a comprehensive road and infrastructure rehabilitation initiative across South Lebanon. This extensive program covers the districts of Tyre, Sidon, Jezzine, Nabatieh, Marjayoun, and Hasbaya.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the program emphasizes areas damaged by Israeli attacks and crucial road links that connect communities to essential services. Projects are at various stages, including road resurfacing, maintenance, and repairing infrastructure damaged by war. Some interventions involve constructing temporary crossings and retaining walls, improving drainage, and implementing road safety measures.
Significant efforts are underway in the Tyre district to replace a bridge destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in Tayr Falsay. The ministry, coordinating with the Litani River Authority, is building a water culvert and temporary crossing to restore connectivity across the Litani River, facilitating movement between Sidon-Zahrani and Tyre districts.
In the Marjayoun district, the resurfacing of the road from the Sawwaneh junction to Touline has been completed, enhancing access for residents and students, particularly during winter. The Ibl al-Saqi-Marjayoun road is also undergoing repairs to address war damage.
The Tyre district has seen completed resurfacing works at the main entrance to Bedias and the road connecting Bedias to Borj Rahhal. These projects improve connectivity between Bedias, Hallousiyeh, and Borj Rahhal. Additional efforts include upgrading stormwater drainage along Tyre's international highway entrance.
In Sidon district and Zahrani, roads in Maamariyeh, Khzayz, Addousiyeh, and internal roads in Abra are being rehabilitated. The program includes road markings along the Sidon-Siniq coastal route and structural rehabilitation of the Shamsiyeh Bridge in Aaqbiyeh.
On the coastal highway from Khaldeh to Naqoura, efforts include cleaning roads and drainage, removing obstacles, and installing protective barriers at critical locations in Rmeileh.
In Nabatieh, maintenance focuses on the Zebdine-Choukine and Ain Qana-Jbaa roads. Jezzine district projects involve the Kfarfalous-Karkha and Kfarfalous-Wadi al-Laymoun roads and the northern entrance to Wadi al-Laymoun.
In Hasbaya, rehabilitation targets roads serving Hasbaya, Fardis, and Mimes, with projects on routes like Hasbaya-Ain Qaniya-Shebaa and Ain Jarfa-Fardis. Engineering works include concrete retaining walls in Fardis and Mimes and a reinforced concrete wall in Ain Qaniya.
The ministry remains committed to its rehabilitation efforts across South Lebanon, prioritizing road connectivity and addressing the needs of residents, especially in border and war-affected areas.
