Beirut: Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, has taken a decisive step by presenting a memorandum of protest to the European Union mission and European ambassadors regarding the Israeli attacks on journalists and civilians. Dr. Morcos is seeking international support to safeguard journalists operating in Lebanon, especially during the ongoing conflict.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Dr. Morcos invited the Head of the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, along with ambassadors from the Netherlands, Cyprus, Belgium, Bulgaria, and representatives from Sweden, Italy, and Poland, to discuss the pressing issue. The meeting served as a platform for Dr. Morcos to express Lebanon's condemnation of the attacks and highlight the necessity for international backing to protect journalists and affirm their safety while covering the war.
In his remarks following the meeting, Dr. Morcos underscored the importance of the gathering and the urgency of the issue. He stated, "Today, at my invitation, we received Her Excellency the EU Ambassador to Lebanon, who kindly responded, along with a number of European ambassadors and representatives of European embassies." He further emphasized the need for support from the international community to align with Lebanon's principled stance against these attacks.
Belgian Ambassador Arnout Pauwel reiterated the critical importance of protecting journalists, stating, "International humanitarian law is very clear on this matter." His comments reflect a shared understanding among the European representatives about the need to ensure the safety of journalists, reinforcing the commitments discussed during the meeting.
