Beirut: Information Minister, Paul Morcos, on Tuesday called on media outlets and citizens to reject hate speech, division, and incitement, stressing that "war begins with words." He said the ministry held meetings with media institutions and agreed on key guidelines, including balanced coverage, accuracy, and avoiding false news.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Morcos noted the ministry lacks legal authority to sanction media, emphasizing the role of the judiciary and cybercrime units. He urged influencers to highlight government efforts, particularly on displacement, while preserving freedom of expression.
Morcos also pointed to the activation of a misinformation unit in cooperation with UNESCO and efforts to pursue international action over attacks on journalists. Moreover, Morcos praised local media for their role in reporting developments.
