Beirut: Head of the Democratic Gathering and Progressive Socialist Party, MP Taymour Jumblatt, participated today in the "Renewal for the Nation" conference, where he delivered a speech highlighting the critical juncture at which Lebanon stands, emphasizing the need to define a future path worthy of the Lebanese people's aspirations and the crises they have experienced.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, MP Jumblatt reiterated that the decision regarding peace and war lies solely with the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army, which he described as a guarantor of stability and protector of unity and sovereignty throughout the country. He emphasized the importance of supporting the army in its role.
Jumblatt also highlighted the ongoing Israeli occupation of parts of Lebanon as a central issue, stressing the need for government focus on implementing international resolutions, such as Resolution 1701, to ensure Israeli withdrawal from the south and halt all forms of aggression against Lebanon.
Addressing the topic of administrative decentralization, Jumblatt described it as an "urgent national necessity" crucial for achieving balanced development and ending regional discrimination. He advocated for decentralization as a means to strengthen national unity by bridging gaps between the center and peripheries and involving everyone in national decision-making.
He concluded by calling for unity among political forces, civil society, unions, and citizens to support a genuine rescue plan starting with fundamental state administration reforms. Jumblatt envisions building a Lebanon characterized by strong unity, prosperity through justice, and cohesion among its people.
