Washington: Chair of the Finance and Budget Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, met in Washington with Morgan Ortagus, Deputy U.S. Envoy to the Middle East, to discuss Lebanon's reform and recovery priorities.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, a statement issued following the meeting highlighted Kanaan's emphasis on the necessity of an integrated vision to restore confidence and economic stability in Lebanon. This vision involves financial and structural reforms, legislative measures, and addressing the financial gap.
The discussions underscored the need for increased international support for the Lebanese Armed Forces to fulfill their mandate, particularly in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the maintenance of stability across Lebanon's territory.
Kanaan also reiterated the importance of the international community fulfilling its commitments, including ensuring Israel's complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
The meeting further addressed the issue of Syrian refugee returns, considering the evolving conditions in Syria and Lebanon's limited capacity to manage the burden of prolonged displacement.
