Baabda: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Tuesday welcomed MP Haidar Nasser at Baabda Palace, where the lawmaker affirmed support for "national choices, the Lebanese state and the course of the presidency," stressing that the current term represents an arbiter and guarantee for all Lebanese. Nasser also briefed the president on the displacement file in Tripoli and the situation there.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun later received MPs Walid Al-Baarini and Ahmad Rostom, with talks focusing on the general situation in the country.
After the meeting, Al-Baarini said the delegation listened to Aoun's assessment of the current circumstances and ways to address the sensitive stage Lebanon is facing amid security and political challenges.
He also expressed full solidarity with the president and support for his positions and initiatives aimed at preserving national stability.
Al-Baarini stressed rejection of what he described as a campaign targeting the Lebanese Army and its commander, Rodolphe Haykal, emphasizing that the army plays a fundamental national role in safeguarding security and civil peace.
He added that the army must be supported rather than targeted, describing the military institution as Lebanon's safety valve.
The meeting also addressed the issue of displaced people and the need to provide humanitarian care that preserves their dignity while taking into account Lebanon's capacity to shoulder the burden.
