Beirut: LebTalks, a platform for Lebanese political and cultural affairs, celebrated its fifth anniversary with a reception at Le Gabriel Hotel in Ashrafieh. The event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Information, Attorney Dr. Paul Morcos, and was attended by several deputies, ministers, and figures from the media, cultural, and economic sectors. Dr. Elissar Naddaf, the Chairperson and Director General of Tele Liban, represented the Information Minister at the event.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Naddaf, speaking on behalf of the Information Minister, praised LebTalks’ contributions to the Lebanese media. She remarked, “The media is not merely a means of expression, but the primary guardian of Lebanese identity, reflecting its image and keeping its voice alive in the face of all change.” Emphasizing the inseparable link between media and identity, she stated, “There is no identity without media to tell its story, and no media without an identity from which it derives its legitimacy and spirit.”
Naddaf highlighted the evolving media landscape and the impact of technological advancements. She pointed out that while the means of media have diversified, the core message and ethics of media remain consistent. She stressed the importance of preserving these ethics amidst the rise of artificial intelligence, which she noted has significantly impacted the media industry. “Artificial intelligence must remain an aid to the media, to preserve credibility and the essence of the profession,” she said.
Discussing the role of freedom of expression, Naddaf noted that it is both an awareness and a responsibility. “Freedom of expression in the media, which we all cherish, is both awareness and responsibility. It is a value that must not be abused,” she asserted. She urged careful consideration of every word in the fast-paced digital age, emphasizing that respect for intellect is crucial and that transparency and professional ethics should not be overshadowed by the pursuit of ratings.
Naddaf also touched on the upcoming visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon, urging the media to highlight the nation’s civilization, faith, and values of coexistence.
