Kuwait city: Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissien Taha has issued a stark warning against efforts by the Israeli occupation to terminate the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Taha emphasized the critical role of the agency in supporting Palestinian refugees under severe conditions.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Taha addressed his concerns through communications sent to the foreign ministers of the permanent countries of the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the leaders of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly. He highlighted that the attempts to end UNRWA’s functions are in violation of the commitments made under the UN Charter and relevant resolutions.
Taha stressed the indispensable services provided by UNRWA to Palestinian refugees, particularly in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, which are experiencing dire circumstances. He also urge
d international leaders to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt its illegal activities aimed at obstructing the agency’s work. The continuation of these services is crucial for maintaining basic living standards for the refugee population in these areas.
