OIC Raises Alarm Over Israeli Attempts to Undermine UNRWA

Amman: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has issued a stern warning about Israel’s actions aimed at ending the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), asserting that these efforts violate international law and threaten vital humanitarian services.

According to Jordan News Agency, the OIC has taken significant steps to address this issue by sending letters to influential international figures and bodies. These letters, penned by OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha, were directed to the Foreign Ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the current Presidents of the UN Security Council, and the UN General Assembly. In his correspondence, Taha emphasized the critical role UNRWA plays in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and particularly in the Gaza Strip, which is experiencing severe hardships.

Furthermore, Taha urged these g
lobal leaders to exert pressure on Israel to cease its unlawful activities against UNRWA, highlighting the agency’s importance in sustaining the well-being of Palestinian refugee communities.

In a related development, the Muslim World League condemned the recent intrusion by settlers into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, facilitated and protected by the Israeli government. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary General of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, part of the Muslim World League, expressed his denunciation of this act in a statement on Monday. He described the settlers’ actions as a serious affront to Muslims worldwide and a blatant disregard for religious and humanitarian principles.
