The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Friday the European parliament's call for the EU countries to recognize Palestinian state and a two-state solution.
The OIC commended, in a press release, the parliament's stress on the importance of ending the Israeli occupation and halt of all settlement activities, as they are illegal in line with international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
The OIC also appreciated the parliament's support for continued work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to look into war crimes committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
It termed the position of the parliament as "historical", calling on the EU countries to recognize Palestinian state based on June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
During a meeting in France's Strasbourg City last Wednesday, the parliament adopted a resolution recognizing the Palestinian state in principle.
Approved by 338 members, the parliament expressed its robust support to the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with the establishment of two democratic sovereign states with Jerusalem as their capitals.
