Islamabad: President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has given his assent to the Constitution Bill, 2024, officially turning it into an Act that addresses key judiciary matters.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the newly signed Constitution (26th Amendment) Act, 2024, has been formally announced in the Gazette of Pakistan following its passage through both houses of Parliament. The ruling coalition managed to secure a two-thirds majority in both the Senate and the National Assembly, which was necessary for the amendment’s approval.
The 26th Amendment introduces significant changes concerning the powers of the apex court and the process for appointing the Chief Justice of Pakistan. This legislative move has been hailed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a prime example of national solidarity and consensus. He emphasized that the amendment is expected to facilitate quicker and more accessible justice for the common man and reinforce the country’s future stability.
